  • Your sports bra has exactly one job, but chances are, it's failing miserably at it.
  • Nothing ruins a great workout like an abject lack of support, and alas, even our favorite sports bras tend to wimp out on us as time goes on, or as our workouts change.
  • That's not the case with the Reebok PureMove Bra, a next generation bra that responds and adapts specifically to your movement in order to provide customized control and support where you need it most.

Nothing ruins a good workout quite like a bad sports bra. Ladies, you deserve better than running with your arms crossed over your chest, or squatting delicately to prevent any accidental... shall we say, spillage. And while various sports bras throughout the years have purported to offer you support, few have managed to withstand the test of time, or your ever-changing workout regimen.

Reebok, however, may have just released a game changer. Its name is the PureMove Bra, and I like to think of it as a Tempur-Pedic for your chest.

The PureMove has the unique capability of actually responding and adapting to the way that you move during your workout, constantly offering a uniquely tailored amount of support where and when you need it most.

The promise of a dynamic and constantly customizable bra sounded a bit too good to be true. As an avid kickboxer, I've spent many an hour-long session phoning it in, hoping that my panicked glances at my trainer were enough to whisper, "My sports bra isn't holding me in anymore." But thanks to Reebok's Motion Sense Technology, it seems that my days in silent agony are over.

Key to the bra's technology is Sheer Thickening Fluid (STF), a gel-like substance with which the sports bra is treated. STF remains in liquid form when the fabric (and in this case, you) are sedentary or slow moving, and begins to turn solid as it senses movement at higher velocities. That means that your bra literally moves with you, tightening and offering more coverage and support as your workout intensifies.

The variation in the bra is almost immediately noticeable — if you're simply walking to and fro, the sports bra will keep everything lifted without tamping anything down. But once you begin high-impact movements, the stretchiness of the bra begins to disappear, turning into a fuller support system.

In developing the PureMove, Reebok worked with researchers from the University of Delaware, conducting breast biomechanic testing with not two or four motion sensors (as is industry standard), but rather with 54. So when I say that you'll bounce less with the PureMove bra, I really do mean it. And it's all in the fabric.

But just because this bra will keep things where they're meant to be doesn't mean that it'll suffocate you while it's at it.

The PureMove features perforations in both the front and back of the bra to ensure breathability, and the molded front panel allows for a second-skin-esque fit that is extremely comfortable. Perhaps most impressive is Reebok's recognition that sports bras cannot, in fact, come in just three sizes. As such, at launch, the PureMove will be made available in 10 unique variations— XS, XS+, S, S+, M, M+, L, L+, XL, and XL+. Hopefully, this will allow an even greater range of women to enjoy the benefits of the bra.

As you might expect, this level of customization isn't necessarily the cheapest of sports bra options on the market, but still, it's priced relatively reasonably. The Reebok PureMove Bra is now available on Reebok.com for $60, and will soon be made available worldwide across key retailers beginning August 30.
